Located between the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains, just an hour's drive from Cape Town, lies Boschendal. The name "Bos-en-dal"—meaning forest and valley—perfectly captures its essence: a breathtakingly beautiful 1,800-hectare basin.

Dating back to 1685, Boschendal is a place where generations of families have worked. Each range, including their Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Shiraz, is carefully crafted for ultimate drinking pleasure. They even employ dedicated red and white winemakers in separate cellars to ensure focused expertise.

It is this meticulous attention to detail that has made them a leader in the production of Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) sparkling wines—produced using the same traditional methods as Champagne, Cava, and Crémant. For the ultimate experience, you can enjoy these exclusive wines in the beautifully restored historic manor house, where the ambiance makes you feel almost like a landowner as you savor every sip.

The World-Famous Boschendal Picnic

The South African winery Boschendal is not only known for its exquisite wines; its Boschendal Picnic is world-famous as well. In the vast gardens, surrounded by stunning nature, you can enjoy a cozy picnic at a table or on a blanket.

Alongside the delicious wine, the food is truly fantastic and makes for an incredible experience. After a morning filled with tasting wonderful wines and an afternoon enjoying a picnic like that, we were absolutely stuffed (or as we say in Dutch, "we konden geen pap meer zeggen"). We simply soaked in the relaxed moment, lying on a blanket in the beautiful surroundings. We were satisfied for the rest of the day and didn't even eat anything else that evening.
