A Hidden Gem in the Breede River Valley
During our stay at a B&B in Worcester, our host mentioned a boutique winery with a great reputation located between Worcester and Robertson called Leipzig.

It was only our second day in South Africa, and we thought it would be fun to pay them a visit. When we arrived, it was unfortunately too late for a winery tour, but we were welcome to do a tasting with some background information on the wines. While tasting, I asked the lady pouring the wine a lot of questions—so many, in fact, that she couldn't answer all of them.
A gentleman sitting a few tables away reading his newspaper found my questions interesting and spontaneously began to answer them in more depth. It turned out this was the master winemaker himself, Michael Carmichael Green. He enjoyed my interest so much that he immediately took us to the vineyards, the bottling plant, and the wine cellar, explaining everything about the wines produced there. Apparently, he doesn't usually get involved with visitors, so it was wonderful that he found us interesting enough to make an exception.
In this region, the Breede River Valley, a lot of bulk wine is produced, or the grapes are used for distilled spirits, but sometimes you come across gems like Leipzig Winery. The area is warm and very dry, and water from the river is used for irrigation.
