Wine has been produced for a long time among the spectacular peaks and valleys of Priorato (or Priorat in Catalan). The highest point, in the Sierra del Montsant, rises to 1,124 meters. The rocks have alternating layers of quartz and clay, which in the sunlight resembles a golden-black striped tiger hide. Almost a century ago, a shepherd tended his flock in the river valley. The terrain is incredibly steep, and the soil is unique, unlike any other: Llicorella, a slate with mica particles. It is one of the oldest wine regions in the world and famous for its Llicorella soil. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 500 meters and are over 85 years old.

This winery is located in Mas d'en Caçador in Priorat North. Owner Raimon and winemaker Isabel drove us in their 4x4 jeep to the highest and oldest vineyard. The view from there is spectacular; see the video below.

Later, we drove to their cellar and tasted their fantastic Priorat wine and took it home with us to the Netherlands. Isabel was also kind enough to give us, in addition to the Priorat wines, her delicious MontSant wines, which we truly enjoyed.
