Tenuta San Guido: Ontmoeting met de Legende van Sassicaia Soms komt alles samen: geschiedenis, passie, een magische omgeving en natuurlijk... de perfecte wijn. Onlangs mocht ik een langgekoesterde droom afvinken van mijn bucketlist: een bezoek aan Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri. Dit is de plek waar de Italiaanse wijnwereld voorgoed veranderde en waar de allereerste ‘Super Tuscan’ het levenslicht zag.

Wie Bolgheri zegt, zegt 'Super Tuscans'. Maar wat betekent die term eigenlijk? En waarom is Grattamacco een van de belangrijkste namen in dit succesverhaal? Tijdens mijn bezoek aan dit iconische domein doken we in de geschiedenis van een regio die de Italiaanse wijnwereld voorgoed veranderde.

Soms heb je van die momenten dat alles klopt. Je neemt één slok en je wéét het direct: dit is zó bijzonder, dit moet ik delen met de rest van de wereld. Dat overkwam mij onlangs in de glooiende heuvels van de Italiaanse regio Le Marche, bij het fantastische wijnhuis Terracruda. Ik proefde daar een reeks wijnen die mijn hart als vinoloog sneller deden kloppen – authentiek, puur en barstensvol karakter.

Sommige wijnreizen voelen als een tijdmachine. Onlangs bracht mijn passie voor authentieke wijnen me naar het zuiden van Italië, naar het wijnhuis Bianchini Rossetti. Hier, in de schaduw van een eeuwenoude mega-vulkaan, ontdekte ik de bakermat van de meest legendarische wijn uit de oudheid: Falerno del Massico. Het werd een dag vol historie, vulkanische kracht en een lunch waar de goden jaloers op zouden zijn.

Casablanca, the first more 'cool climate' area with mainly granite-clay soils. Here, the focus is on white (70%) with some Pinot Noir and Merlot. Concha y Torro started viticulture here in the 1980s in this wine region of approximately 6,000 hectares. We visit Indomita, a white winery established in 2001, located high on a hill.

From the bustling metropolis of Buenos Aires, we took the boat and crossed the Rio de la Plata. Destination: Uruguay! While Argentina boasts the grandeur of the Andes, Uruguay surprises with an intimate, almost European atmosphere. In Colonia del Sacramento, we not only found a historical gem, but also discovered that Uruguay is a wine country bursting with diversity and character.

The Errazuriz winery is located in the Aconcagua Valley in Chile, approximately 100 kilometres north of the capital Santiago. Het hoofdkwartier en de historische kelders bevinden zich in de plaats Panquehue.
